What is WiFi4EU?
WiFi4EU is an EU initiative where vouchers worth €15,000 are granted to cover the cost of equipment and installation of wireless internet access points in thousands of municipalities across Europe.
This initiative promotes free citizen access to Wi-Fi connectivity in public spaces such as parks, squares, public buildings, libraries, health centers, and museums in municipalities throughout Europe.
It is a funding program that, for the first time, provides vouchers transferred from municipalities to Wi-Fi installation companies.
Program Objective
WiFi4EU supports the installation of modern Wi-Fi equipment in social life centers.
The Digital Space (Smart Digital Cities)
The digital space of smart cities consists of digital applications and electronic services provided via broadband networks to residents, visitors, and businesses.
Vision
Carlos Zorrinho, the program’s proposer, described WiFi4EU as “a powerful political vision that will soon become a reality across the EU, ensuring all citizens have access to high-quality wireless internet regardless of where they live or how much money they earn.
This will improve the ‘European Gigabit Society,’ making it economically competitive.”
WiFi4EU – Connection
Connecting to the WiFi4EU network is very simple. The European Commission requires the network name (SSID) to be “WiFi4EU.”
This is the same everywhere, making WiFi4EU reception centers recognizable throughout Europe.
When connecting to the free Wi-Fi network for the first time, you will be redirected to a secure login page (captive portal).
You will be able to connect with a simple click-to-connect operation.
Once connected to the Wi-Fi network, you can freely browse using WiFi4EU! Additionally, if you disconnect and reconnect within 12 hours, you won’t need to log in again.
